If you've done much work in After Effects you've created some sort of animation using keyframes. I've used AE quite a bit and never knew what exactly all the different types did. Watch this video, it's really good.
Having done typography before, I can't imagine how long it took to create this. Pretty impressive.
A few weeks ago we were planning out our message series "Salvaged". In our creative meeting we developed the idea for this video. Check it out and I'll break it down next.
If you've seen much of my work you know that this video is a ways outside my normal style.
I couldn't have done this without the help of Jenny and Travis working through the script with me. My interns were a huge help too pulling all the props together and helping during the shoot.
Now for the behind the scenes stuff that I love to share.
This video would've been a dud without the right lighting. The kit was rented from Seattle Grip & Lighting ($175).
- (2) Arri 1k open face lights to light the cyc
- (2) Arri 650 fresnels for back lights
- (1) Arri 1k fresnel w/ chimera (key light)
- (1) Arri 300 fresnel (fill light)
- As you can see in the picture, we were set up in the back of the worship center.
- I already had one roll of 9' seamless paper for the cyc but I knew I would need something much bigger.
- I looked into renting a studio with a huge cyc and it was going to be nearly $1000, ouch!
- I bought another roll of cyc paper from Glazers in Seattle. This one was a 12' roll ($120)
- I was stoked to be able to use my homemade camera dolly for this. I turned out some great shots.
- In post-production secondary color correction played a huge roll in getting the white cyc to be bright, crisp and consistent. Especially for the shots in the second half when each character was towards the outside of the set.
In the end it was a really exciting project to do. I was really blessed to be able to play such a big part in communicating in Pastor Jeff's message of Salvaged Marriage.
I guess I'm always up for a challenge, even if it scares me.
